Forging

"Hizukuri" means "forging" and literally means "to forge and create." As the saying goes, "strike while the iron is hot," by heating steel to a high temperature and hammering it, the steel becomes stronger and is molded into the desired shape, creating the base of the scissors.

In the old days, fire forging was heavy work that required skill, with the master holding the red-hot metal in chopsticks and a mallet in one hand, and striking the metal together with the master hammer. Today, this work is done using spring hammers and large air stamps.

Although the way of working has changed between the past and the present, traditional techniques are still used today. There is an optimal temperature for heating the steel, and the strength and rhythm of the hammer strikes determine the degree of completion. By using the five senses to discern subtle differences, we create a foundation for greater precision.
